Caring for Your Jewellery
Tips to Make Your Jewellery Last Longer
Keep your gold, silver, and gemstone pieces looking radiant. Every order comes with a jewellery storage pouch, a polishing cloth, and a two-year warranty for peace of mind.
Avoid Chemicals: When getting ready, keep your pieces away from perfume, deodorant, hairspray, and nail polish remover.
Protect During Holidays: Remove jewellery before swimming or sunbathing. Avoid contact with sunscreen, body oils, and saltwater.
Gentle Cleaning: Wipe your pieces with the polishing cloth included in your order. For a deeper clean, use mild dish soap with warm water.
Handle with Care: Be gentle with your jewellery to avoid scratches, bends, or other damage.
How to Store Your Pieces
Use Your Pouch: Keep each piece in its jewellery pouch, roll, or box to prevent scratching and tangling.
Control Humidity: If you live in a humid environment, include a small desiccant packet with your stored jewellery to reduce tarnishing.
Cool, Dark, and Dry: Store jewellery in a cool, dark place to maintain its shine.
Protect Gemstones from Sunlight: Prolonged sun exposure can fade some stones like amethyst, rose quartz, chalcedony, and smoky quartz.
Yellow Solid Gold
We recommend choosing yellow solid gold for jewellery you plan to wear daily—like engagement rings, wedding bands, or any cherished piece you want to keep forever. Every 9k and 14k gold item is stamped with “375” or “583,” making it easy to identify. Solid gold is more durable than gold vermeil, which has a sterling silver base—a softer metal.
Solid gold is perfect for pieces meant to last a lifetime, as it doesn’t require re-plating. 9k and 14k solid gold are alloys made of 37.5% and 58.3% pure gold, combined with metals such as silver, copper, and zinc. These additional metals increase durability but can lead to tarnishing over time—a natural process that can be easily prevented or removed by gently wiping with an anti-tarnish jewellery cloth.
Cleaning Yellow Solid Gold:
• Mix a few drops of mild dish soap in warm water and soak your gold jewellery for 15–30 minutes.
• Avoid hot or boiling water, particularly if your piece contains delicate gemstones. Likewise, freezing water can make dirt harder to remove.
• Gently brush with a soft toothbrush to remove grime from small crevices.
• Rinse under warm running water.
• Blot dry with a soft cloth and let pieces air dry completely before wearing.
White Solid Gold
White gold is a naturally warm-toned metal due to the light-coloured alloys such as palladium used in its composition. After crafting, it is dipped in rhodium to achieve a bright, mirror-like finish that resembles platinum. Rhodium plating also protects against light scratches.
Tips for Caring for White Solid Gold:
1. Solid gold is soft and can scratch or dent—remove jewellery when playing sports.
2. Avoid pools and spas, as chlorine can react with rhodium plating.
3. Household cleaners with acids or abrasives can damage the finish—wear gloves or remove jewellery when cleaning.
4. Put jewellery on last when getting ready to avoid contact with makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions.
5. Remove rings when washing hands or bathing to prevent a soapy film forming on the plating.
6. Minimise friction by avoiding wearing white gold rings alongside other rings.
7. Re-plate rings every few years to maintain shine; more frequent re-plating may be necessary if you work with chemicals or wear them heavily.
8. Solid gold chains are durable but still delicate—avoid excessive force to prevent breaks.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil (pronounced “ver-may”) is sterling silver coated with 2.5 microns of 14k gold, offering luxury at an accessible price. It’s far more durable than typical gold-plated jewellery, though heavy daily wear (especially rings) may cause the plating to fade after about six months. This is natural wear and not a product fault.
Caring for Gold Vermeil:
1. Remove jewellery before washing hands, showering, or swimming.
2. Apply makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions before putting on jewellery.
3. Use a jewellery cleaning cloth to gently restore shine—avoid polishing agents or abrasive liquids.
4. Spinning rings may wear faster; we offer free re-plating within one year for covered items.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper for durability. Look for the “925” stamp. Silver can oxidise and tarnish over time—a normal process that can be remedied with a jewellery cleaning cloth.
Top Tips:
• Avoid sports and impact to prevent scratches or dents.
• Remove jewellery before swimming in pools or hot tubs—chlorine accelerates tarnishing.
• Household cleaners can damage the finish; use gloves or remove jewellery.
• Apply beauty products before wearing jewellery to prevent dulling.
• Avoid wearing rings in the bath or shower to prevent soapy residue.
Gemstones
Our gemstones are natural and each stone is unique; variations in colour and pattern are natural and add to its charm.
Caring Tips:
• Avoid direct sunlight—extreme heat and UV can fade gemstones.
• Remove jewellery before swimming, bathing, or washing hands.
• Protect from knocks or bumps; remove during exercise.
Pearls
• Put pearls on last when dressing to avoid contact with cosmetics, perfume, and lotions.
• Store separately to avoid scratches.
• Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, or showers.
• Clean with a damp, soft cloth only.
Opals
• Keep opals away from water—remove before washing hands, showering, swimming, or exercising.
• Avoid high humidity and heat, which can alter the stone’s water content and colour.
• Do not clean with ultrasonic cleaners.
Diamonds
• Diamonds are extremely hard but can chip from impact.
• Store safely in the original box.
• Clean with lukewarm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse, blot dry, and air dry.
